I bought my Olympus Stylus 1030 SW to take on outdoor adventures, and it's held up admirably. The most unique features are its shock resistance (up to 6.6 ft), cold resistance (to 14 F). and most importantly, water resistance (to 33 ft).
I take it on any outdoor trip where a camera is likely to get banged up or wet, including for shots of underwater sea life. The 10.3 megapixel LCD provides plenty of detail. One caution, it's certainly not the lightest point and shoot out there, but it trades off some weight for much improved durability and protection.
